Janice M. (O'Farrell) McCarthy, 68, of Hudson, died on Saturday, Feb. 15th at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Northboro. She was the beloved wife of the late William H. McCarthy Jr. who died in 1978.
Janice was born and raised in Brighton, daughter of the late Philip and Louise (Akerman) O'Farrell. She attended local schools and was a graduate of St. Columbkille High School. She later received her Bachelor's Degree from Boston State College. She has resided in Hudson since 1978 and prior to that resided in North Quincy. Janice began a short career as a teacher in the Boston Public School System before she began raising her family in North Quincy and Hudson. She took great pride in the raising of her children and the care of their home. Besides spending time with her family, her passion was the vast collection of dolls and stuffed animals she had collected and cherished over many years. She was a member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson.
She is survived by her two sons, William H. McCarthy III of Lancaster and Matthew P. McCarthy of North Quincy. She is also survived by her loving grandson, Owen William McCarthy and Many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Louise E. Timmons who died in 1999.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 21st at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Thursday, Feb. 20th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
