Jean M. (Learned) Benedict, 73, of Concord, former long time resident of Hudson, died on Saturday, Feb. 26th at the Rivercrest Long Term Care Facility in Concord. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Rev. Dean E. Benedict of Concord.
Jean was born in Marlborough and raised in Hudson, daughter of the late Charles W. and Mildred (Ricker) Learned. She was a graduate of Hudson High School, class of 1954 and later attended Boston University where she received an Associate's Degree in 1957. She worked as a secretary for the Town of Hudson School Dept. for 19 years until retiring in 1997. Jean was a former Mother Advisor of Marlboro Rainbow for Girls and enjoyed traveling to Clearwater, Florida, where she spent the recent winter months with her husband Dean. Jean was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hudson for many years where her husband, Rev. Dean E. Benedict was a former Pastor. Jean was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting and was a talented seamstress.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her two children, Rebecca L. Appel and her husband Charles of Hudson and David C. Benedict and his wife Catherine of Norwell. She is also survived by her brother, Charles E. Learned of LaGrange, Texas; her four grandchildren, Brianna and Colleen Benedict, Abigail and Maggie Appel; three nieces and many cousins.
A memorial service will be celebrated on Thursday, March. 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 34 Felton Street, Hudson. A private committal service will be held in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Wednesday March 2nd from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749 (www.tighehamilton.com).
