Joan L. (MacPherson) Rock, 78, of Hudson, wife of Anthony D. Rock, died on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Marlborough Hospital, following a short illness.
Besides her husband of 42 years, she is survived by their daughter, Melissa J. Rock of Hudson; her sisters, Rosemary Rimkus of Hudson and Patricia Sullivan of North Billerica; her brother, Joseph D. MacPherson of Hudson; her sister-in-law, Rosemarie MacPherson of Sterling and many loving nieces and nephews and their families. She was also the sister of the late Charles L. MacPherson Jr.
She was born in Boston on July 9, 1930, daughter of the late Charles L. and Alice F. (Mahoney) MacPherson. A graduate of the former Saint Michael's Academy in Hudson, class of 1947, she also attended Boston Museum of Fine Arts evening school.
She was employed by the U.S. Foreign Service Department and served at U.S. Embassies in Jordan, Iraq, Hong Kong, and Pakistan, where she met her husband, prior to that she was employed by the former Victory Plastics Co. of Hudson for several years. She shared her overseas experiences as guest speaker with local community and social groups. She also resided in her husband's native England, and for three years with her husband and daughter in Saudi Arabia, but spent most of her life in Hudson.
Mrs. Rock was a member of Hudson Woman's Club and Saint Michael's Parish of Hudson. She had served as a CCD teacher and also as a chairman of the St. Michael Parish Christmas Bazaar. An expert bridge player, she was a member of the Marlborough- based Bridge Club for many years. A talented artist, she was a student at the Hudson Senior Center art classes.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 8 at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of: Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749.
