Joanna L. (Luz) Medeiros-88, of Hudson, MA died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at Heywood Hospital in Gardner.
She was the wife of the late August Medeiros Jr. who died in 1976 and the late Joseph Bairos who died in 1954.
She was born in Peabody, daughter of the late Joaquin and Maria (Silva) Luz. She accompanied her parents back to Santa Maria, the Azores in Portugal after birth where she was raised and returned to Peabody in 1947 where she resided until moving to Hudson in 1952.
She was employed by the former Thomas Taylor & Sons in Hudson for 30 years as a stitcher until her retirement. She was a former member of Christ the King Parish and member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson. She enjoyed crocheting many items for her family and was an avid professional wrestling fan. She especially enjoyed her frequent trips to Foxwoods and Las Vegas casinos with her children.
She is survived by her 3 children, Leonora Seco and her husband Elias of Royalston, Joseph Bairos and his wife Angela of Templeton and John Bairos and his wife Patricia of Moreno Valley, CA. She is also survived by 3 sisters, Maria Emilia Luz of Portugal, Georgina Christopher of Florida, Ondina Costa of Clinton; her step children, Edward Medeiros of Marlborough, Monica Oram of Marlborough, Arthur Medeiros of Florida; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Anthony Bairos who died in 2005 and survived by her daughter in law Rose Bairos of Hudson; mother of the late Fatima (Bairos) Morrissey who died in 2006; sister of the late Leal Luz, Jose Santos; grandmother of the late Jeffrey Bairos who died in 2001, Edward King who died in 1996 and stepmother of the late Evelyn Medeiros and Anna Sarsfield.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michaels Church 21 Manning Street Hudson MA. Burial will be in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours Friday, Dec. 28, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
