Joaquim V. Pires, 79, of Hudson, died on Tuesday, Sept. 9th surrounded by his loving family at Marlboro Hospital. He leaves his loving wife of 49 years, Zaira L. (Lino) Pires of Hudson.
Joaquim was born and raised in Santo Estevao Chaves, Portugal, son of the late Joao and Maria (Vinhias) Pires. In 1957 he left Portugal to reside in Luanda Angola, Africa until emigrating to Hudson in 1973. He was employed as a machine operator for 28 years with Independent Cable Co. of Hudson until his retirement. He was a member of the Hudson Portuguese Club and member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson.
Joaquim enjoyed tending to his garden yearly and caring for his home. He was an avid soccer fan and member of the Sporting Club of Portugal. He looked forward to taking trips back to Portugal to visit with family but most of all he loved spending time with his family here, especially his grandchildren. He will truly missed by all.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, John Pires of Hudson; his daughter, Amy Roder and her husband James of Marlboro; his five grandchildren, Cody and Kassadi Pires of Hudson, Kailynn Palaima, Zachary and Haylee Roder, all of Marlboro and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by 7 siblings living in Portugal, Connecticut and New York and was predeceased by 2 siblings.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 13th at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Friday, Sept. 12th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
