John Martin Anderson, 92, of Hudson, died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at his home after a brief illness. He was born in Osceola, WI, son of the late Martin and Edna (Flipse) Anderson. He leaves his wife of 64 years, Vivian (Root) Anderson of Hudson.
John graduated from Colfax, WI, High School in 1935 and from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1941 with a degree in Chemistry. After briefly working for Kimberly Clark, John worked for Lake Ontario Ordinance as part of the WWII war effort. He then worked as an analytical chemist for DuPont Chemicals in Niagara Falls for 39 years.
John and his wife Vivian had been long time active members of the Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church in Niagara Falls prior to moving to Hudson where they joined the First United Methodist Church in Hudson. John was deeply involved with his church and multiple community groups including Scouting, Youth Sports, and Red Cross Volunteers.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, James F. Anderson of Greely, CO; four sons and their families: John Gregg Anderson and his wife Gisela of Reno, NV; David Martin Anderson and his wife Kathy of Rockville, MD; Philip Edward Anderson of Westland, MI and Jim Anderson and his wife Bobbie Ewels of Hudson, MA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Kristina Teixeira and her husband Narlan, Peter Anderson; Matthew, Bradley and Dana Anderson; Charlotte and Kevin Anderson. He was the brother of the late Jane Feiler of Highland Park, IL and Eugene Anderson of Naperville, IL.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 12th at 4:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 34 Felton St., Hudson. Internment of his ashes will occur at a later time in Colfax, WI. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of: Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, (www.tighehamilton.com), 50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to: American Red Cross, P.O. Box 4002018, Des Moines, IA 50340-2018.
