Hudson, MA
John N. Collins, 81, passed away February 7, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.
John was born in Somerville, MA, one of seven children of David F. and Eleanor (Quirk) Collins. The family moved from Somerville to Hudson in 1955. John is predeceased by his parents and by his brother David and sister Irene Drew. A most special bond is that of John and his twin Alan. They respected each other, were dedicated to one another and were strong figures of support to their siblings. Alan and his wife Ann (Finnerty) and their sons John Peter and Trevor reside in Hudson. John is survived by the light of his life, his daughter Eleni and her husband John Roriz and their two children John Peter and Eva Eden. John’s former wife and mom of Eleni is Kathryn Collins who along with the Roriz family, resides in Oak Bluffs. John is also survived by his sisters: Elizabeth Lugin of Waltham and her children Michael, David and Declan, Annette of Hudson, and Katherine of Framingham. The Collins family has many cousins: The Cliffords-John, Douglas, Daniel, Robert, Roger who made the trek to Hudson with their mother Irene at the same time as the Collins clan. They share many years of memories and adventures, some pretty interesting! The Collins family also share many years and memories with their many Quirk and Collins cousins.
John graduated from Utah State, in Ogden, Utah where Alan and lifelong friend Arthur Peters studied also. John retired from a career as a surveyor and always missed his work. He was known for his talent for plotting bridges. John enjoyed writing poetry, enjoyed music, especially jazz. WICN was always on car radio. John was his own man, lived true to his values. He was a man of few words, thus those words meaningful. His home was where he was most comfortable and until this year he tended that home himself-lawn care, tree-pruning, snow removal, painting home’s exterior. He was a nature/conservation lover, enjoyed long walks with Eleni on paths on Martha’s Vineyard. John will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
