John "Doc" P. Donovan

April 29, 1926 — April 15, 2018

John "Doc" P. Donovan, 91 of Hudson, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 15, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, after a period of declining health. John is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife Barbara L. (Fairgreve) Carter Donovan and his daughter, Kathleen A. Donovan.

John was a life long resident of Hudson, a son of the late, Francis J. and Ida M. (Ethier) Donovan, he graduated from Hudson High School in the class of 1943. Following his graduation, John enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and proudly served his Nation during WWII, from 1944 until 1946. Upon his return from service John married the love of his life, Mary McNally Donovan, who predeceased in December 2006, and together they raised their family in Hudson. John owned and operated a machine and tool shop in town, Hudson Broach Inc., until he eventually retired in 1988.

John was an active resident in the community; he was lifetime member and Past Exalted Ruler at the Hudson Elks as well as a lifetime member at the Hudson VFW. John was also a lifelong member of Saint Michael Parish and devout Catholic whose unwavering faith was an inspiration to those that knew him. He also enjoyed golfing, skiing and traveling locally and abroad. He especially loved to visit Hawaii where he had been 13 times through the years. John was also an avid New England sports fan. Above all else he was a loving father and grandfather who was happiest when in the company of his family.

Amongst his many survivors he leaves behind his children, James F. Donovan, Joanne M. (Donovan) Okerman and her husband David and John M. Donovan and his wife Bonnie all of Hudson; his grandchildren, Randy Donovan, Jimmy Donovan, Peter Donovan, John Ross Schubarth, Christopher Schubarth, Matt Donovan and his wife Katie, Erin Donovan and Kelsey Donovan; his great- grandchildren, Aubrey Schubarth and Jeannette Donovan and many nieces and nephews. John is also survived by his four stepchildren, Kim, Keith, Kurt and Kevin Carter. In addition to his wives, daughter and parents, he was also predeceased by his siblings, Francis Donovan, Philip Donovan and Patricia Carney.

Friends and relatives are invited to a period of visitation from 4-8 pm on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A funeral cortege will process the following day on Friday April 20, 2018 from the funeral home to Saint Michael Parish in Hudson for a 9 am celebration Mass of Christian burial; followed by interment in Saint Michael Cemetery in Hudson.
