John C. Wanamaker, 74, formerly of Hudson, died Wednesday, July 9 at the HCR Manor Care in Fort Meyers, FL.
He is survived by his wife and dear friend, Joan (Hunt) Wanamaker of N. Fort Meyers, FL.
He was born and raised in Bayside, NY, son of the late John and Mary (Highfield) Wanamaker. John was the lone child of his parents and lost his father at the age of 7. He was a devoted son to his mother after his fathers passing and continued to care for her until her passing. He moved to Hudson in 1968 and resided there till 2004 when he moved to N. Fort Meyers, FL. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army and was employed as a Director of Reps for the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Boston until retiring in 2001. John was an avid sports fan and an active member of the Brooklyn Dodgers Fan Club and also was a season ticket holder of the Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox and Bruins. He was a life member of the Hudson Elks and member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson.
He is survived by his 4 children, Lori Peloquin of Arizona, Diane Kerwin of Groton, Lisa Reynolds of Arlington and Dan Wanamaker of Lancaster. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, July 14, at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning St. Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held Sunday, July 13 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749.
