Jose M. Chaves, 87, of Hudson, formerly of Santa Maria, Azores Portugal. Died on Saturday, Mar 5th at Bolton Manor Nursing Center after a short illness.
Jose was born in Santa Maria Azores, Portugal, son of the late Manuel P. and Maria C. (Bairos) Chaves. He moved to Hudson in 1977 where he worked as a janitor at the Forest Ave. School in Hudson for 10 years. Jose enjoyed spending summers and fishing in St. Maria Portugal. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Hudson. Jose was pre-deceased by his wife of 48 years, Maria (Moura) Chaves who died in January of 1998. He enjoyed spending time with his family and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is she is survived by his five children, Berta Ponte and her Manuel of Hudson, Aida and Antonio Chaves of Bridgewater, Maria Ines and Heitor Grota of Canada, Jose Manual and his wife Valentina Chaves of Canada and Jose Agostinho and Adrianna Chaves of Santa Maria, Azores. He is also survived by his brother Joaquim Chaves and his wife Filomena of Hudson. Jose is also survived by twelve grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by many brothers and sisters.
A funeral will be celebrated on Monday, March. 7th at 9:00 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Sunday March 6th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749 (www.tighehamilton.com).
