Joseph Aloysius Garrity, Sr.

Clinton - Joseph Aloysius Garrity, Sr., 94, of Clinton, died on Saturday, November 20th at Clinton Hospital after a brief illness.

He leaves his son, Joseph A. Garrity, Jr. and his wife Mary Pat (Farragher) of Clinton and his only grandchild, Patricia Riehl, wife of John Riehl of Sacramento, California. He married his wife, Mary (McLaughlin) in 1942 and was married for sixty years before she died in 2002. He was the son of Patrick and Annie (O'Malley) Garrity and was predeceased by a sister, Mary Janda, and brothers' John and Francis Garrity.

Joe was truly loved by his family and was very proud of his granddaughter Patricia.

Joe was a life long resident of Clinton and graduate of Clinton High School, class of 1934 where he played football and baseball and began working in Worcester. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. After the war he worked for Bond Bread and Wonder Bread before becoming a meat cutter at the First National Grocery Store. He then went to work at the Institute for Juvenile Guidance in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, the Lancaster School for Girls, and retired in 1980 from Youth Service Board in Concord, Massachusetts.

After retiring, Joe began working for the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home in Hudson, Massachusetts, where he spent 25 years as an attendant.

He was a huge sports fan and particularly loved Boston College from where his granddaughter graduated.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 24th at 10:00 a.m. in Saint John's Church, 80 Union Street, Clinton. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Lancaster. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 23rd from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. (www.tighehamilton.com)
