Joseph F. Gill Sr., 85, a lifelong resident Hudson, died on Friday, June 12th at his home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret M. (Curley) Gill of Hudson.
Joseph was born in Marlboro, son of the late John and Rose (Charland) Gill. He was raised in Hudson where he attended local schools and was a 1947 graduate of Hudson High School. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army until being honorably discharged. Joseph began working as a U.S. Post Office mail carrier in Hudson until he began his long career as a plumber. In 1971 he started his company, J.F. Gill Plumbing and Heating of Hudson and owned and operated the plumbing company until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the American Legion Post of Hudson, member of the Knights of Columbus in Hudson and member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson.
Joseph had many interests in his life but none were more important than his family. He was known as a tireless worker and avid tennis player. He enjoyed playing cribbage and doing crossword puzzles in his spare time. Most of all he cherished being with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great grandchildren who all adored him. He will truly be missed and remembered always by all who knew him.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his five children, Joseph F. Gill Jr. and his wife Nancy of Lancaster, Mary Ann Rossi and her husband Bob of Leominster, Daniel Gill and his wife Doreen of Lancaster, Michael Gill and his wife Cheryl of Hudson and Christine Almeida and her husband Tony of Overland Park, Kansas. He is also survived by his two sisters, Margaret Murphy and her husband Leo of Hudson, Anne Simoes and her husband Richard of Hudson; his brother, John Gill and his wife Therese of Hudson; his 12 loving grandchildren, 6 loving great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his brother Robert Gill.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday June 17th at 10:30 a.m. in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 16th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
