Joseph A. Girard, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 5, 2024 after a brief battle with Leukemia. Joe was born on August 2, 1939 to Joseph and Irene (Martel) Girard and grew up in Shrewsbury.
He graduated from Shrewsbury High School with the class of 1958 where he was a proud member of the football team. He went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree from Northeastern University and worked with several companies throughout the New England area including a lengthy career at Data Terminal Systems and Cullinet Software.
Joe was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed water-skiing on Lake Quinsigamond, snow-skiing in the mountains of Vermont and boating on the Rhode Island waterways. He had a life full of adventures, travel, do it yourself projects, and caring for his family. Everyone who knew Joe considered him a good friend.
Joe took great pride and joy in raising his three children. His son Bruce could always be found shadowing his Dad on all his favorite projects. Joe was proud to have created the first girls hockey team in Shrewsbury. With both his daughters on the team he spent countless hours teaching the team all of his hockey knowledge. He was so proud of all the girls.
Joe married Tricia Daley in 1989 and they celebrated their 35 year anniversary in March, 2024. Joe will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife Tricia; his daughters Susan Adams and her husband Colin of Shrewsbury, Michelle Jewers and her husband, William of Shrewsbury; and daughter in law Susan Girard of Holden, his grandchildren Philip and Andrew Jewers, Rachel and Julia Girard, and Abigail and Megan Adams.
He is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Irene Girard, his step-mother Marie Girard and his son Bruce Girard.
Calling Hours for Joe will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 8:30am-9:30am, at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA. A Funeral Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 10am, at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning Street, Hudson, MA. Committal Services will be held at a later date.
