Hudson, MA
Joseph John Grillo-92, life long resident of Hudson, MA, died Sunday, March 11, 2007 at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was husband to the late Emily C. (Santos) Grillo who died on Aug. 30, 2001.
He was born in Hudson, MA, son of the late Manuel and Mary (Custodio) Grillo.
He was a graduate of Saint Michael's School in Hudson. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1944. He was a member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson, a member of the Saint Michael's Holy Ghost Society, and a life long member of the Hudson V.F.W.
He was a former employee of Hill Brothers Shoe Co. for 30 plus years, He was employed by the Town of Hudson Public Works Dept. for 16 years and also worked for the former Victory Supermarkets in Hudson for 5 years.
He will always be remembered as someone who gave of himself, projected a positive attitude on life, and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and special friend to all who knew him.
He leaves his 3 children, by his children, Dalores (Grillo) Booth and her husband Richard of Rochester, NH, Thomas Grillo and his wife Alice of Fortville, IN, and Katherine (Grillo) Fields and her husband William of Maynard, MA. He also leaves his brother, Jesse Grillo of Hudson, MA, 6 grandchildren, Angela (Booth) Schoonmaker and her husband Christian of Rochester, NH, Corrine (Booth) Briggs of Rochester, NH, Jared and Justin Grillo of O'Fallon, MS, Michael Fields of Maynard, MA, and Matthew Fields and his fiancAC.e Jenny Freeman of Gorham, ME, 3 great grandchildren, Jocelyn and Connor Schoonmaker of Rochester, NH, and Dalton Briggs of Rochester, NH.
He was the brother of the late Mary T. Grillo, Manuel Grillo, Lydia P. Grillo, Alfred J. Grillo and nephew to the late Rev. Joseph T. Grillo.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michaels Church 21 Manning street Hudson, MA. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, March 13, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
