Joseph J. Rivers, 72, of Hudson, MA died on Friday, May 20, 2022 at UMASS Medical Center, University Campus in Worcester. He was the beloved husband of 33 years to the late Gail M. (Stacey) Rivers who died in 2011.
Joe was born in Newton, MA, son of the late William J. and Marjorie (Grinley) Rivers. He was raised in Hudson attending local schools and was a graduate of Hudson H.S. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1969. He worked for many years with the G. Bonazzoli and Sons Construction Co. of Hudson. He was a member of the Amvets Post 208 of Hudson and the VFW post 1027 of Hudson.
Joe leaves his son, Casey Rivers of Hudson; his brothers, James and William Jr., both of Florida, Dana of Hudson; his sisters, Sandra of Chicopee, Ryanne of Yarmouth; his partner Susan Bills of Hudson; many nieces and nephews along with his faithful german shepherd “Honey”. He was predeceased by his brothers Kenneth of Florida and Richard of Hudson.
Joe was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching all the local teams including the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. He was a member of the Hudson High School baseball and basketball teams and later volunteered to coach his sons teams as Casey was growing up. He cherished his time coaching the kids and celebrated the many championships they won as a team. He was a well know disc jockey in the area and would often entertain an audience with his great voice and karreoke renditions of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley songs. He will always be remembered for his unique personality and willingness to always help someone in need.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM followed by a service and celebration of Joe’s life at 12:00 PM in the Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Urn burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Broad Street, Hudson, MA.
