Joseph P. Staniunas, 85, of Dallas, TX, formerly of Hudson, died on Sunday, May 3rd at Gulf State Long Term Acute Care in Dallas, TX.
Mr. Staniunas was born in Hudson, son of the late Charles and Petronia (Poulauskas) Staniunas and resided in Hudson from 1923-1973. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, VA with a Master's Degree in Architectual Engineering and also served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He practiced architecture for over 60 years, designing and overseeing projects such as the "Hudson Catholic High School" and the "Winthrop Junior High School". He was also a civilian architect for the Navy in San Diego, CA in his later years. In his spare time "Joe" was an avid reader and was president of his bridge club. He also was an avid artist who enjoyed painting water colors, drawing pastel portraits and ink sketches of historical buildings. Attending family functions and taking photographs of his beloved family was also something he enjoyed immensely.
Mr. Staniunas is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara (Kelleher) Staniunas; his children, Joseph P. Staniunas and his wife Claire of Roanoke, VA, James J. Staniunas of Worcester; daughter-in-law Carol (Barlow) Staniunas of Roslindale; daughter Marianne (Staniunas) Oien and her husband James of Marion; Dr. Raymond J. Staniunas and his wife Justyna of Plano, TX; Peter J. Staniunas of West Hollywood, CA; John F. Staniunas of Lawrence, KS; Kevin J. Staniunas of Tucson, AZ; and his daughter Patricia M. (Staniunas) Ritchie and her husband Ryan of Yorktown, VA.
Mr. Staniunas is also survived by his twin brother, John C. Staniunas of Wellesley and 20 grandchildren; David, Charles, William, Robert, Marianne and Kelly Staniunas, Lauren (Staniunas) Kerr and her husband Geoffrey, James Andrew and Rebecca Kiely, Luke, Mark and Mary Kate Oien, Mykolas, Sophia, Nadia, Nicholas, Miranda and Brittany Staniunas and Bryn and Nathan Ritchie. He was pre-deceased by his son, Michael J. Staniunas of Tucson, AZ; two brothers, Charles and Stanley Staniunas, both of Hudson and granddaughter, Katy Ann Oien of Marion.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 8th at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 7th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749.
