Joseph A. Stukonis, 75, of Marlboro, died on Tuesday, Sept. 20th at UMASS Memorial Healthcare, University Campus in Worcester. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth A. (Spilva) Stukonis of Marlboro.
Joseph was born in Worcester and raised in Waltham, son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Slabacauskas) Stukonis. He attended local schools in Waltham and was a long time meat cutter, working for the former Waltham Super Market in Waltham and later was employed by Star Market Supermarkets at several locations, including Sudbury and Natick. He retired in 1993. Joseph was veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps until being honorably discharged in 1957. Joseph spent many years as a coach in the Marlboro Youth Baseball program and was a former member of the American Legion, Post 191 of Sudbury.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Mark Stukonis of Marlboro, Kenneth Stukonis and his wife Denise of Hudson, James Stukonis and his wife Carolyn of California, Dawn Goulet and her husband Glen of Hubbardston, Ann Goulet and her husband Craig of Hudson and Deborah Babine of Northboro. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren; one great granddaughter and his many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Cheryl Stukonis in 1989; his grandson, Craig Goulet Jr. in 2009 and his many sisters and brothers
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24th at 11:00 a.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlboro. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Friday, Sept. 23rd from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
