Lawrence Charles Downey, 84, of Hudson, MA, died on Friday, October 20, 2023 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus, Worcester, MA. He was the beloved husband of Eileen K. (Friend) Downey who died in 2013.
Lawrence was born and raised in Marlborough, MA, son of the late Lawrence W. and Thelma (Hamlin) Downey. Following high school he served in the National Guard. He was a pressman/machine operator by trade first working for Colonial Press in Clinton, MA and later worked for many years for RR Donnelley in Hudson, MA. He retired at age 62. He was a member of American Fly Fishing Trade Association and was a Trustee member of the Reservation. He has resided in Hudson, MA since 1964.
Lawrence is survived by his 2 daughters, Mary West and her husband William of Ware, MA and Jeanine Rinoldo and her husband Anthony of Marlborough, MA. He also leaves his brother Richard Downey of Marlborough, MA; his 4 sisters, Carol Credit and her husband Dennis of Georgia, Diane Galante and her husband Sonny of Gloucester, MA, Janice Downey of Marlborough, MA; his two grandchildren, Lindsay (West) Pepper of Ware, MA, Amber (West) Ringgard and her husband Evan of Templeton, MA; his great grandson Jaxon along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Ann Marie, his sister Barbara Renaurd and survived by Barbara’s husband Maurice Renaurd of Marlborough, MA.
Lawrence had many outdoor recreational hobbies he enjoyed which included camping, hiking and of course his passion in life, fly fishing. In his spare time he enjoyed reading and tinkering with his fly fishing tackle. He cherished his family and spending time with them was always special, especially later with his grandchildren. He looked forward to getting away to Crane Beach in Ipswich, MA, “his favorite”. He leaves behind so many wonderful memories and will be truly missed by all.
Funeral services for Lawrence were held privately at the convenience of the family. Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA is honored to be assisting Lawrence’s family with arrangements.
