Lorraine E. (Wellen) Hellen, 98, of Hudson, MA, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Life Care Center of Acton, with her family by her side, after a brief period of declining health. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of over 54 years, Charles J. Hellen, Sr., who predeceased her in 1996.
Lorraine was born in Marlborough, on September 25, 1920, one of eleven children of the late William Henry and Anna (Allaire) Wellen. She spent her childhood in Marlborough and later moved to Hudson, MA in 1942, shortly after marrying the love of her life Charles J. Hellen. Lorraine was a devoted homemaker, who dedicated her life to caring for her husband and their 6 children. She was a devout catholic and longtime member of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson.
Lorraine loved to spend time with her friends and family, especially playing board games and cards but was known for making errors in her favor when keeping score. She also enjoyed crocheting, watching television game shows at home and always kept a well-stocked freezer full of her favorite coffee ice-cream.
Lorraine is survived by her 6 children, Janet M. Gessner of Pelham, NY, Barbara R. Stern and her husband Pete of Oak Park, CA, Charles J. Hellen, Jr. and his wife Karen of Marlborough, MA, William H. Hellen andhis wife Annie of Phillipston, MA, Ronald F. Hellen and his wife Meg of Hudson and David M. Hellen of Hudson; a sister, Ann Smith of N. Hollywood, CA; a sister-in-law, Mary E. Hellen; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Charles J. Hellen, Sr., she was also predeceased by 9 siblings and her son-in-law, Charles A. Gessner.
Relatives and friends are invited to a period of calling hours from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., on Sunday, April 21, 2019, at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2019, at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA. Burial will be private at a later time.
