Louis B. Martel, 73, of Hudson and Fort Myers, Florida, died Wednesday, Nov. 10th at his home in Hudson surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doreen M. (Souza) Martel of Hudson and Fort Myers, Florida.
Mr. Martel was born and raised in Cambridge, son of the late Louis and Eva (Baril) Martel. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge Trchnical High School. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy until being honorably discharged in 1963. Mr. Martel has resided in Hudson since 1969 and was a Hudson Police Officer for 25 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Hudson Elks, Hudson Eagle's, Bonita Springs Eagle's in Florida, Hudson Amvet's, Odd Fellows of Hudson and member of the Bonita Springs Moose Lodge in Florida. He was a member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Denise Sowden and her husband Keith of Hudson; his son, Steven Martel and his wife Gail of Hudson and his honorary son whom Mr. Martel welcomed into his family, Earle Cadoret and his wife Ellen of Clinton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nickolas Sowden and his wife Jessica, Steven Martel Jr., Kristofer Martel, Leigh Antunes and her husband Louis, Amanda Fusco, all of Hudson, Keith Sowden and his wife Lisa of Marlboro; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Gabriel Bakker of Cherry Valley, California.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 13th at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Nov. 12th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
