Luis P. Leandres, 97, of Hudson MA, passed away on March 8th, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.
Luis is survived by his wife of 74 ½ years, Felicidade B. (Chaves); his son, J. Gerry Leandres and his wife Neli of Hudson, MA; his grandson Kyle Pavel Leandres of Hudson, MA; sisters-in-law Rosa Chaves of Hudson, MA, Helena Braga of Taunton, MA, and Zenalia Bairos of Marlborough, MA; along with other relatives and friends. He was the youngest of 9 children and predeceased by his 8 siblings, Jose, Antonio, Manuel, Joao and Francisco Leandres, Helena Freitas, Filomena Cabral and SR. Maria Gervasia.
Luis was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal. He was a stone mason by trade, building many homes in Santa Maria. He along with his family emigrated to the United States in 1967 residing in Hudson, MA from 1967 to present time. He was a member of the Hudson Portuguese Club and member of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson.
Luis had several hobbies and interests throughout his life but most of all cherished his vegetable garden. He took great pride in the care of his gardens and spent countless hours cultivating the many vegetables he grew. Although gardening was his passion, family was the most important aspect of his life. He enjoyed many trips to the beaches in Rhode Island and always cherished the times they shared together. He will be remembered for his sacrifices to assist his family in all aspects of their lives including educational support and his unique bond with his grandson Kyle. He will truly be missed but never forgotten.
Relatives and friends are invited to visitation hours from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 15th,2024 at the Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 16th. Interment will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery in Hudson.
