Lynn E. Daeke, 64, of Hudson, died on Saturday, June 25th at Emerson Hospital in Concord after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Teresa Fox-Daeke and their two children, John Walter Daeke and Kelly Fox Daeke, all of Hudson.
Lynn was born and raised in Southern Pines, NC, son of the late Walter H. and Georgia E. (Crumpler) Daeke. He attended local schools there and was a 1964 graduate of Southern Pines High School. Following high school Lynn was accepted as a Cadet with the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. upon graduating in 1969. After graduation, he attended pilot training and served for one year in Vietnam with the 834th Air Division as a pilot of C-&A Caribou. Following his service in Vietnam, Lynn became a Flight Instructor at the Craig Air Force Base in Alabama and later was stationed at the Langley Air Force Base in Virginia as a Computer Systems Officer. He spent a few years as an Inactive Reservist following his regular service in the Air Force. In subsequent years, Lynn served as an Active Reservist out of the Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford. He retired holding the rank of Major.
Lynn and his wife Teresa have resided in Hudson the past 24 years, raising their family and developing many friendships he cherished. He has spent the last 30 plus years as a Senior Systems Engineer with The Mitre Corporation in Bedford. He was an active volunteer in his community. As a member of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson he served as a Lector, spent time as the Parish RCIA Catechist and was always involved in the Saint Michael Parish Schools' various fund raising events. He was also a devoted volunteer with the Hudson Youth Sports Programs, spending his spare time coaching and raising funds to support the programs. Lynn was an avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed the Celtics and was well known by his friends as a competitive golfer. He enjoyed playing tennis also.
Besides his wife and two children, Lynn is survived by his two brothers, Ray Daeke and Jerry Daeke and his wife Carol, all of Aberdeen, NC; his sister in-law, Patricia Fox of St. Paul, MN; brother in-law, John Fox of St. Paul, MN; several nieces; one nephew and many close friends.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 30th at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 29th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
