M. Nancy (Faron) Smith, 72, of Hudson, Mass. and North Berwick, Maine, died unexpectedly Feb. 29,
2008 at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Mass.

She was born in Boston, daughter of the late William B. and Margaret C. (Leary) Faron.

She was educated at Girls Latin School in Boston, and received her baccalaureate degree from Emmanuel College
in Boston. During her career she studied computer science at Framingham State College, and later,
professional ceramics at Worcester Center for Crafts.

She worked as a claims adjuster, and later helped organize a new insurance company. She worked for
several high tech companies, in particular Digital Equipment Corporation of Maynard. In her later years,
she maintained a studio in Worcester where she turned out prize-winning pottery in the style of the
famous New Mexico potter, Maria Martinez.

Nancy is survived by Donald Gibson Smith, her husband of 45 years, and a son Craig Evan Smith,
both of Hudson, and a daughter, Dara Elizabeth Smith, of Cambridge. All live part of the time at the
Smiths ancestral home, Beechwood Farm of North Berwick, Maine. She is also survived by many
cousins, most of whom live in the Millbury, Mass. area.

She will be cremated, and her ashes interred in the family burial plot at Beechwood Farm. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the Advanced Medical Research Foundation, 333 Longwood Avenue
Boston, Massachusetts 02115 , the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA
22312, or the Arthritis Foundation, PO Box 96280, Washington, D.C. 20090-628.
