She graduated from Marietta College in 1957 with a degree in education, where she was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority. She then followed her parents to Weedsport NY, where she began her career as an elementary school teacher. On August 12, 1960, she married the Rev. She was also president of the Centers for Nature Education at Baltimore Woods. She remained in Syracuse until ca. 2015, shortly after she met a second love, Glen Snowden (1932-2020).
