Maria C. (Tavares) Braga, 83, of Hudson, died on Friday, Jan. 21st surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Manuel F. Braga in Sept. of 2000.
Maria was born and raised in Santa Maria the Azores of Portugal, daughter of the late Jose Tavares Chaves and Maria Da Gloria (Chaves) Chaves. She has resided in Hudson the past 31 years after moving from Santa Maria. She worked as a machine operator for many years for James Monroe Wire Co. in Lancaster until retiring in 1990. She was a member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson.
She is survived by her six daughters, Maria I. Chaves and Lidia Braga, both of Marlboro, Olga Santos, Celia Braga, Gina Braga and Emma Sousa and her husband Tony E. Sousa Sr., all of Hudson and her son, Jose T. Braga Sr. of Hudson. She is also survived by three sisters and two brothers, Ermalinda Braga, Ines Perinho, Celeste Soares, Manuel Chaves and Jose Chaves, all of Canada; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 24th at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Jan. 23rd from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
