Hudson, MA Maria C. (Chaves) Monteiro, 83, of Hudson, died on Saturday, May 7th at Bolton Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Marlboro. She was the wife of 55 years to the late Jose B. Monteiro who died in 2002.
Maria was born in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Chaves) Chaves. She was raised and resided in Santa Maria until moving to Hudson 45 years ago. She was employed as an assembler by the former Thomas Taylor & Son's Co. of Hudson for many years until retiring in 1990. Maria enjoyed cooking, especially for her family and friends. She was a member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson.
She is survived by her son, Jose M. Monteiro of Onset, Cape Cod; her three daughters, Maria B. Resendes, Natalia Resendes and her husband Jose and Beatrice Chaves and her husband Joe B., all of Hudson. She is also survived by her brother, Jose Chaves of Canada; her sister, Helena Chaves of Taunton; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John Chaves, Filomena Carvalho and Maria L. Travas.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 9th at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 8th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749
