Maria B. (Monteiro) Carvalho, 89, of Hudson, died on Friday, October 31st, surrounded by her loving family at The Reservoir Center in Marlboro. She was the beloved wife of 57 years to the late Joao B. Carvalho who died in 2005.
Maria was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, daughter of the late Antonio P. Montiero and Maria J. (Braga) Montiero. She emigrated to Hudson from Portugal in 1981 and took great pride in raising her family in Hudson. She was employed for many years by Thomas Taylor and Sons Co. in Hudson. Maria always looked forward to trips back to Santa Maria and especially loved spending time with her family. She was a long time member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson and the Hudson Portuguese Club.
She is survived by her children, Maria Freitas of Canada, Antonio Carvalho and his wife Lurdes of Hudson, David Carvalho and his wife Natalia of Hudson and Maria "Natalia" Freitas and her husband Joao of Hudson. She was predeceased by her son, the late Jose Carvalho husband of Maria M. Carvalho of Hudson. She is also survived by her three sisters, Gestrudes Moura and Beatriz Rego of Hudson and Lurdes Chaves of Wareham. She was the sister to the late Jose, Antonio and Manual Montiero. Maria is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 3rd at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Sunday November 2nd from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
