Maria Figueiredo Sousa

Maria Figueiredo Sousa, 90, of Hudson, MA, died on Monday, September 23, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Carvalho Sousa for 39 years until his passing in 1996.

Maria was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal. She emigrated to the United States in 1966 settling in Hudson, MA. She worked at Marlboro Footwear until 1984 and then worked for Chase Walter in Hudson, MA until retiring in 2002. She was an active member of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson, MA.

Maria is survived by her son Jose Figueiredo Sousa of Hudson, MA; her two daughters, Maria Sousa Camara and her husband Antonio of Hudson, MA, Helena Sousa Chaves, wife of the late Joseph Chaves of Auburn, MA; two grandchildren, Tony Camara of Woburn, MA, Alex Chaves and his wife Alyssa of Hudson, NH and her great grandson J.J. Chaves. She is also survived by her brother, Manuel Figueiredo and his wife Cidalia of Cambridge, Canada; brother-in-law Manuel Sousa of Hudson, MA;sister-in-law Maria Fernandes Sousa of Hudson, MA along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Antonio Figueiredo and survived by his wife Maria of Haywood, CA and predeceased by her brother Dr. Jose Figueiredo and survived by his wife Juvenalia of Hudson, MA.

Maria was loved by all her family and friends. She was truly someone special as she was always there to help anyone in need. She enjoyed baking and cooking for friends and family and in her spare time she found crocheting and sewing an enjoyable pastime. She looked forward to her frequent trips back to Santa Maria to visit family and friends and was very proud of her role as the “Matriach” of the family. Her gift to remember dates and family details was always appreciated by her loved ones. She will be missed but never forgotten by those who loved and knew her.

Visiting hours will be held at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 4-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Michael Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson, MA on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 10:00 am; burial to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson, MA.
