It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Conceiçao (Bairos Pereira) Leandres, a loved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother (Biza). Maria joined the angels in heaven on January 4, 2024, peacefully with her daughter Ana by her side. Born on April 14, 1936, in Santa Maria, Azores, Maria was a mom to three generations. As the oldest of nine, Maria quit school in third grade to assist her mom with raising her siblings.
In 1961, Maria married her late husband Jose F Leandres of 57 years. They moved their family to Sao Miguel, Azores where Maria, a devout mother, Maria dedicated herself to raising her 5 children. In 1973, Maria and Jose embraced a new chapter, relocating to Hudson, MA.
Maria’s faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a devoted Catholic. Her commitment extended to ensure that the rosary was said every night with her children. Maria was a natural crafter and she always had a ball of yarn and crochet needles close by. However, her true passion in life was her family. Her eyes would light up as she spoke to her grandchildren about growing up or teaching them a new Portuguese word. She was truly the happiest surrounded by her family. She exemplified compassion, kindness, and a selfless spirit in all that she did.
Maria is survived by her 5 children Luisa Fontes and her husband Tony Fontes, Ana Monteiro and husband Nelson Monteiro, all of Hudson; Eduardo (Eddie) Leandres of Milford, Eulalia Leandres of Berlin, and Hildeberto (Bert) Leandres of Island Park, RI. In addition to Maria’s enduring love for her children, she leaves behind a legacy through her grandchildren: Kaylin Leandres, Megan Fontes Larson, Nick Leandres, Brandon Fontes, Sam Leandres, Travis Rafferty, Kiah Green, Tiana Green, Angelina Leandres, Noah Monteiro, Garrett Monteiro, Antonio Leandres, the late Zachary Leandres, Annmarie Leandres, as well as, her great-grandchildren Sloane and Miles Larson and Emmie Leandres on the way. She also leaves her adoring daughters in law Joceline Kadlik, Elizabeth Aldorisio-Leandres and charming David Green.
Maria is survived by her 2 sisters Maria Jose Viegas and Beatriz Figueiredo and husband Antonio Figueiredo of Hudson, her brother Antonio Pereira and wife Adelina Pereira of Taunton, her 2 sisters Helena Freitas and Filomena Bairos, and sister in law Alice Pereira of the Azores.
