Maria Odilia Chaves, 90, of Hudson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 16th surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of Antonio P. Chaves who died in 1974.
Maria was born and raised in the Azores of Portugal, residing on the Island of Santa Maria. She emigrated to Hudson along with seven of her children and has resided in Hudson the past 47 years. She took great pride in raising her family and providing them with a rewarding life in Hudson. She was a long time employee of the former Thomas Taylor and Son's Company in Hudson and member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson.
Maria enjoyed knitting and crocheting in her spare time. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will truly be missed by all.
She is survived by her 8 children, Jose P. Chaves of Hudson, Maria P. Chaves and her husband Jose of Northboro, Antonio P. Chaves and his wife Maria of Hudson, Manuel P. Chaves and his wife Eva of Hudson, David P. Chaves and his wife Patty of Gardner, Lidia P. Chaves of Hudson, Arsenio P. Chaves and his wife Rosa of Hudson and Zelia P. Braga of Hudson. She also leaves her 21 loving grandchildren and 24 adoring great grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 19th at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Sept. 18th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-AHamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
