Maria Rosa (Braga) Chaves, 96, of Hudson, Ma, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her beloved family, after a period of declining health. She is reunited with her beloved husband, Antonio S. Chaves, who predeceased her on November 17, 1980.
Maria was born on April 1, 1924, in Santa Maria Azores, Portugal, one of five children of the late, Jose Viveiros Braga and Maria Angelina (Rocha) Braga. She was raised in Santa Maria where she met her husband and started a family. They immigrated to Hudson in 1967, where she has resided for the past 53 years.
Maria worked for many years as a machine operator at Hudson Lock, before retiring. She was a long-time devout member of Saint Michael parish in Hudson. Maria loved to spend time at home with her family and playing cards.
She is survived by 6 children, Angelo Chaves and his wife Elizabeth, Antonio Chaves and his wife Beatrice, Maria Wickstrom and her husband Michael, Zaira Loura and her husband Tony, Zelia Aponte and her husband Tony and Theresa Bigley and her husband Rick and her daughter-in-law Deolinda Chaves. She was also survived by 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren: 3 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her son, Jose Chaves and her brothers, Antonio Braga, Jose Braga, Manuel Braga and Joao Braga.
Due to the Covid 19 directives all services will be held privately. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at Saint Michael Parish. Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with her arraingments.
