Maria S. (Sousa) Chaves

Maria S. (Sousa) Chaves, 86, of Hudson, MA, passed away peacefully at home, on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, surrounded by her family, after a brief period of declining health. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of 52 years, Antonio Chaves, who predeceased her in 2007.

Maria was born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, on August 14, 1934, a daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Luz) Sousa. She completed her education in Santa Maria and later met the love of her life Antonio Chaves. Together they immigrated to Hudson in 1974, where she still resided. Maria worked for many years as an assembler for ACT company, before eventually retiring.

Maria was a lifelong devout Catholic, who prayed her rosaries and attended Masses at Saint Michael Parish regularly. She loved being at her home and enjoyed cooking, crocheting many afghans and doilies and cooking delicious food for her beloved family members. She loved to spend as much time as she could with her children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Maria is survived by 4 children, Jorge A. Chaves and his wife Ilda of Narragansett, RI, Ana Maria Andrade of Hudson, MA, Paulo J. Chaves and his wife Zelia of Hudson, MA and Emily M. Braga and her husband Victor of Hudson, MA; 8 grandchildren, Donny Andrade and his wife Kim, Kimberly Andrade, Alexis Grilli, Janeen Kelleher and her husband James, Jason Chaves, Amanda Sowa and her husband Jon, Stacey Harvey and her husband Austin and Samantha Chaves and her partner Mark Defazio; 10 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and beloved husband Antonio Chaves, she was also predeceased by 2 infant children and a brother, Jose Sousa.
