Maria Lourdes Soares, 83, of Hudson, died Thursday, July 8th at Marlboro Hospital. She was the wife of the late Manuel Resendes who died in 1969.
Maria was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores, Portugal, daughter of the late Manuel S. and Angelina J. (Soares) Melo. She has resided in Hudson the past 32 years and was employed as a weaver by the former Thomas Taylor & Sons Co. in Hudson for many years until retiring. She also worked part time for the Sheraton Hotel in Framingham. Maria was well known for the pride and care of her chickens and rabbits, which she enjoyed raising over the years.
She is survived by her son, Jose S. Rego and his wife Lydia of Hudson and was the mother of the late Manuel Resendes who died in 1997. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren, Diane Montanez, Sandra Rego and Lisa Cabral, all of Hudson, Karen, Kelly, Kathrin and Kristopher Resendes, all of Taunton; 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Maria J. Soares.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 10th at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 9th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the: Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
