Maria F. (Fonseca) Tavares, 76, of Hudson, died on Tuesday, Sept. 24th at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Horacio S. Tavares of Hudson.
Maria was born and raised in St. Michael, the Azores of Portugal, daughter of the late Teofelo and Adelaede (Ferreira) Fonseca. She has resided in Hudson the past 32 years after moving from St. Michael, the Azores. She was employed as an assembler for ACT Manufacturing Co. in Hudson for many years until her retirement. She also enjoyed tailoring many garments for friends and family on the side as a seamstress. Maria always looked forward to spending time with her family and friends. She loved cooking for them at all their gatherings and holiday events. She will be greatly missed by all of them.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Filomena Jesus and her husband Joao of Hudson and Luisa Serpa and her husband Emanuel of Portugal. She is also survived by her three loving grandchildren, Brian Jesus of Hudson, Vando and Felipe Serpa of Portugal; her sister, Arlete Sousa of Portugal; her two brothers, Carlos Fonseca of Florida, Fernando Fonseca of Portugal and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 28th at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Friday, Sept. 27th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
