MARLBORO, MA
Marilyn (Smith Fee) "Mimi" Murphy, 81 years old, passed away during the morning hours of May 27. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mimi graduated from Newton High School in 1953 and Tufts University (summa cum laude) in 1957. She later received her masters degree in Library Science from Simmons College.
Mimi loved birdwatching, reading, gardening, the Boston Lyric opera, the BSO, and immersing herself in the culture and history of New England and the world. After spending most of her life in Newton, she lived in Marlboro from 2002 until her death.
The daughter of the late Edna and J. Ernest Smith, Mimi was married to Gerard F. Murphy from 1970 until his death in 1998. She is survived by her three daughters: Cynthia White of Winter Park, FL, Melinda Vigolo of Hillsborough, NC, and Sorena Pansovoy of N. Andover; and four grandchildren: Ryan and Caroline White, Isabella Vigolo, and David Pansovoy.
Please join her family at a memorial service Friday, June 9, at noon at one of her favorite places--the Wayside Inn, Sudbury.
Burial at the Newton Cemetery will be private. Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Mass Audubon (208 South Great Road, Lincoln, MA 01773) would be lovely.
