Mary E. Akins (McMullen), 78, a long time resident of Hudson, died in Northborough on Wednesday, May 7th surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of the late William F. Akins of Hudson who died in 2012 with who she would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on May 9th.

Mary was born in Boston, daughter of Warren and Catherine (Murley) McMullen. She was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin, and was inducted into the schools athletic Hall of Fame. Mary worked for 11 years at New England Telephone and for 21 years at Acton School system as a switchboard receptionist. She resided in Hudson for 41 years and worked the voting polls for many years. She was a member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her three children, Janice Akins-Fournier and her husband David of Northborough, William John Akins and his wife Jill of Pembroke and Susan Burns and her husband William of Stow. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Henry Fournier and Nicole and Katelyn Burns; her brother in-law Jack Bowles husband of her late twin sister Catherine Bowles, her sister-in-law Judy Akins wife of the late Paul Akins and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Doris Zeman, Warren McMullen and her twin Catherine Bowles.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 12th at 11:00AM in St. Michael Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 10th from 4:00PM-7:00PM at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 304, Chicago, IL 60611 or the Music program at VNA Care Network and Hospice 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.
