Mary Lou Finn

On the evening of Monday July 29th 2024, Mary Lou Finn, beloved Mother and Nana, passed away in the presence of family after a long period of steadily declining health; she was eighty-eight years old. She was predeceased by her dear husband John J. Finn in early 2022–himself a gentle, friendly soul with whom she enjoyed over fifty years of marriage.

Born on January 16th, 1936 to the late Arthur and Blanche Charbonneau (née Murray), Mary Lou was a proud lifelong resident of Hudson, Massachusetts. After completing Catholic High School, she would go on to graduate from Framingham Nursing School and maintain a decades-long career at Framingham Union Hospital. 

She would ultimately retire in the early 2000’s to concentrate full time on her family, treating her granddaughters to frequent trips to the mall, parks, and restaurants. At this time she also focused on socializing with her treasured circle of friends, a close-knit bunch of like-minded women who cheekily coined themselves the “Chapel Belles”. Together, the group indulged in trips to New York City to attend the theater, vibrant parties at one another’s homes, and frequent time out in pubs. 

Mary Lou was a voracious reader, sharp-witted when it came to puzzles, trivia and crosswords (always done in pen, never pencil); riotously funny and endlessly quotable; steadfast in her convictions and opinions, all the while remaining affable and approachable. There was no one better to converse during happy times, or to counsel you in times of trouble—whether you’d known her for years, or were a stranger who found yourself chatting with her in line while at the store. 

She leaves behind her one and only child, daughter Maribeth Finn of Hudson, who she doted upon from birth and gave all the best of herself to; granddaughters Victoria Hixson and Kortney Hixson, both also of Hudson–and both equally as spoiled by Mary Lou as their mother. 

Though heartbroken without their matriarch, they can take solace in the fact she is now reunited with John, and with the countless friends who had so sadly gone before her. They may also find comfort in the blessings Mary Lou bestowed upon them:

To Maribeth, the strength to endure the countless trials life unfortunately affords; grace to weather any storm.

To Victoria, characteristic dry wit and delivery; the ability to find humor in the darkest of situations. 

To Kortney, an absolutely unmatched generosity; not only with her money, but with her time and energy as well. 

Burial services and a subsequent celebration of life will be private.
