Hudson, MA

Mary V. (Sims) Millett, 101, of Hudson, MA, died at her residence surrounded by her loving family on Monday, September 9, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles E. Millett Jr. who died in 2013 after 70 years of marriage.

Mary was born and raised in South Barre, MA, daughter of the late William and Mary (Middleton) Sims. She spent a short time in Bellingham, MA before settling in Hudson, MA. She was a 1941 graduate of Hudson High School. Mary spent the early years of her adult life raising her children. When her youngest child was 6 years old, she began working at Hudson Lock Company as an assembler. She eventually became an employee of Thomas Taylor and Sons in Hudson, MA working as an office clerk until retiring in 1983. She has been a member of Saint Michael Parish for many years and was a member of the former Christ the King Parish in Hudson, MA.

Mary is survived by her four daughters, Karen Hellen and her husband Charles of Rutland, MA, Barbara Millett of Hudson, MA, Christine Marcotte of Hudson, MA, and Mary “Mae” Frias of Clinton, MA; her daughter-in-law Barbara P. Millett and Polly Alden; her 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her husband Charles; her parents William and Mary; her sons Charles W. “Chip” Millett, and Richard S. Millett; her brother William Sims; her sisters Everlenna Roche and Jean Almada; and her great-granddaughter Elyse Frias.

Mary lived a long and wonderful life. She had many interests throughout her life which included oil painting, sewing, and knitting to name a few. She was an accomplished seamstress and designed many outfits for her family throughout her life. Her daughters were especially overjoyed when they received matching outfits designed by Mary for the 1966 Hudson Bicentennial Celebration.

Both Charles and Mary enjoyed vacations and cruises together following their retirement. They spent their winters in Florida and could not wait to come back north for the summers. Mary and her family spent countless summers at their camp in Fitzwilliam, NH. It was a special place for all to enjoy for many years not only as the children grew up but also as adults spending summers together that were filled with precious memories shared by all the generations. Mary will truly be missed but her memories will be cherished forever by those who loved and knew her.
