HUDSON/SHREWSBURY – Mary E. (Betty) (Campbell) Rouse, 87, a longtime resident of Hudson passed away Sunday December 31, 2017 at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, MA. Betty leaves two daughters, Sue Lovejoy and husband Steven of Holden and Joanne Lively and husband William of Hudson; one son, James Rouse and wife Beth of Shrewsbury; one sister-in-law, Lee Rouse of Hudson and one brother-in-law, Howard Rouse of Framingham; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband and love of her life Harold, as well as six brothers, William, Edward, Walter, Herbert, Robert, and Donald.
Betty was born in Bolton, MA, the daughter of Caldwell and Annie (Miller) Campbell. Her father died when she was an infant, and she moved to Hudson at the age of nine when her mother married her wonderful step-father Andrew Howden. Betty graduated from Hudson High in 1948 and met Harold when he was discharged from the army upon his return from Germany. They married in 1949 and enjoyed 63 years together until Harold’s death in 2012. She was an active member and former Treasurer of the First Federated Church of Hudson. Betty was truly gifted at counted cross-stitch and produced several works of art over the years.
Betty and Harold enjoyed many happy summers with friends at Camp Eaton in York, ME following their retirement. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who treasured spending her free time with family, especially her life’s love, Harold.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff and residents of Shrewsbury Crossing Assisted Living for their love and friendship for Betty over the past two and one half years.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in the names of Betty and Harold Rouse to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011 or online at www.alz.org, or a charity of your choice.
