"Joe" Norman Reid Babcock, passed away on Dec. 28th in his home on Old Bay Road in Bolton. "Joe" leaves his wife of 53 years, Margaret J. (Johnston) Babcock. Dad leaves his three children, Susan Therrien and her husband David of Berlin, Norman Paul Babcock and his wife Colleen of Templeton and Dawn Babcock of Bolton. "Papa" leaves his five grandchildren, Joshua and Whitney Therrien and Zachary, Ryan, and Jacob Babcock. He also leaves his two brothers, Robert Babcock of Cape Cod and Phillip Babcock of Arizona. He was predeceased by his brothers, Irvin and Neal Babcock.
Mr. Babcock was born in Clinton, MA, son of the late Charles J. and Marjorie (Tansey) Babcock. He was a lifelong resident of Bolton, he attended the school system in town, and graduated from Hudson High School in 1952. Norman worked as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 1998 for the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #4, his passion for machinery always continued. He was an enthusiastic member of the Northeast Rockbusters Chapter, which he shared with joy and pride with his youngest daughter, Dawn.
Norman was proud of his affiliation with the Boylston Lodge A.F. & A.M.; also a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shriners.
Above all, "papa" was a family man; nothing made him happier or prouder than watching his grandchildren compete in anything. He shared his love for the outdoors with all who would listen.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday Jan. 2nd at 11:30 a.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Jan. 1st from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial in South Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
