Phillip W. "Putt" Bartlett, 79, of Berlin, died Saturday, July 5 at UMASS Memorial Healthcare, University Campus in Worcester.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane (Nowlan) Bartlett of Berlin.
He was born in Clinton, son of the late Everett E. and Mildred A. (Field) Bartlett. He was a lifelong resident of Berlin and a 1947 graduate of Hudson H.S. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He received a degree in agriculture from Stockbridge College of UMASS and later received an Associates Degree in Engineering from UMASS Lowell. He was a highway superintendent for Mass Highway, the town of Harvard and town of Townsend until he retired after 30 years of service. Prior to that he was employed at Fiske Nursery and after retirement worked at the Twin Springs, International Golf Courses. He was a member of the Lions Club in Berlin and was a Berlin Selectman for 26 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his 4 children, Rod Bartlett of Peterborough, NH, Debbie Pelkey and husband Bob of Woodstock, VT, Karen Bartlett of Berlin and Amy Messcher and husband David of Ayer. He also leaves his 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Tom and Everett Bartlett Jr.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, July 11, at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Joseph's The Good Provider Church, 52 West Street, RT. 62, Berlin, MA. Burial will follow in North Cemetery, Berlin. Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 10 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749.
