Rene R. Simard, 77, of Hudson, died suddenly Wednesday, May 5th at UMASS Memorial Healthcare, University Campus in Worcester. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Jean (Murphy) Simard of Hudson and his children, Kathleen Hart and her husband John of Hudson, Susan O'Connell and her husband William of Marlboro, Brad Simard of Hudson and Mary Simard of Boston. He is also survived by his brother, Leo Simard of Worcester; his sister, Leda Cofelice of Hudson; his two grandsons, Adam and Patrick Hart of Hudson and many nieces and nephews
Rene was born in Marlboro and was a long time resident of Hudson. He and his wife Jean also resided in Kennebunk, ME from 1995 to 2005. Rene was a graduate of Hudson High School and also graduated from Pratt Whitney of Connecticut. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the 82nd Airborne squadron. He was employed as a materials engineer for 32 years by GTE/Sylvania of Needham until retiring in 1995 and was a member of the 25th Century Club of Retirees at GTE. Rene was an avid golfer and spent many years as a member of the Twin Springs Golf Course in Bolton. He was a former coach with the Hudson Youth Hockey program and Jr. Babe Ruth baseball program. He spent many years playing in the Hudson Men's Softball League and was a member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 8th at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 7th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the: Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
