Richard M. Courtemanche, 82, of Hudson, died on Thursday, March 24th following a long illness. He leaves his beloved wife Barbara (Bisset) Courtemanche of Hudson. The couple would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on May 6.
Born in Hudson, the eldest son of the late Peter I. and Lillian (Brandie) Courtemanche, he was a lifelong resident and communicate at Saint Michael Church in Hudson
Richard attended local schools and was a 1946 graduate of Hudson High School where he played baseball and hockey. "Punchy" as he was to his former classmates and friends, was an outstanding southpaw pitcher who at one time played for the former Boston Braves team in Truro, Nova Scotia. He was very active for many years in local sports programs having coached Little League and Pee Wee hockey teams. He was also an umpire for area baseball and Hudson and Marlboro softball teams.
Richard served on active duty with the U.S. Army from Oct. 2, 1946 to Jan. 19, 1948. He served as a sergeant at the U.S. Eight Army's Quatermaster Depot in Kobe, Japan.
He was employed as a machinist for more than 40 years at the former LaPointe Machine and Tool Co. and retired from the Hudson Broach Co. in 1993.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Falcucci of Boylston and his grandchildren, David Falcucci, Daniel Falcucci, both of Worcester, Brian Falcucci of Manchester, N.H., Drew Courtemanche of Worcester, Ross Courtemanche of McHenry, Illinois, Brianne Courtemanche of Marlboro and great grandchildren, Caleb, Ava, Abigail and Cali. He was the father of the late Kenneth Courtemanche who passed away in 2006 and brother of the late Donald Courtemanche who passed away earlier this month.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 28th at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 27th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Richard may be made to: Saint Michael's Parish, 20 High Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
