Richard E. Cunningham, Sr.

Richard E. Cunningham Sr., 95, of Hudson, MA, passed on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 49 years to his late wife Jane E. (Frawley) Cunningham.

Richard was born in Randolph, MA, on May 13, 1929, to his late parents Charles Cunningham and Mary (O'Leary) Cunningham. He was raised in Braintree, MA, Richard graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Weymouth, MA, with the class of 1947. He relocated to Hudson, MA, in 1964, where he has resided until his passing. Richard was a parishioner at the former Christ the King Church in Hudson, MA, and Saint Michael Parish, also in Hudson, MA.

Richard is survived by his daughters Susan LaPorte and her husband Russell of South Berwick, ME, and Brenda Hoseason and her husband Peter of Bolton, MA; his sister Joan O'Hearn of Wilmington, MA; his grandchildren Carolyn Ingalls and her husband James of Haverhill, MA, Jessica Bailey and her husband Jules of Portland, OR, Meghan Gavalis and her husband Robb of Westborough, MA, and Colleen Schoeck and her husband Craig of Plymouth, MA; 9 great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his wife Jane; his parents Charles and Mary, his son Richard E. Cunningham, Jr., his sister Barbara Traverse, and his daughter-in-law Kristine Cunningham, who passed three days before Richard entered into eternal life.

After graduating, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy, serving five years before being honorably discharged. Richard married his wife Jane in 1954. They lived in South Weymouth for ten years, before relocating to Hudson, MA. Richard worked for Honeywell while taking night courses at Northeastern University, where he would earn his degree in Electrical Engineering. Richard retired from Northrup Grumann Corporation after twenty-five years working as a senior design electronic engineer. in his retirement years, he enjoyed landscape painting, reading , ancestry, traveling to Ireland, tracking hurricanes, but mostly spending time with his family.

Calling Hours for Richard and Kristine will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 4pm-7pm at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for them on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 10am, at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning Street, Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to Forestvale Cemetery, Broad Street in Hudson, MA, for Committal Services for Richard and Kristine.
