Richard G. "Dick" Durand Sr., 83, of Hudson, retired owner of Durand Chevrolet in Hudson, died on Thursday, Sept. 18th at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary A. (Kelleher) Durand of Hudson.
Dick was born and raised in Hudson, son of the late George A. and Marie L. (Bourgeois) Durand. He attended local schools and was a 1949 graduate of Hudson High School. He was a lifelong resident of Hudson and owned and operated Durand Chevrolet in Hudson for many years until retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Massachusetts Auto Dealers Association, member of the Riverside Rod and Gun Club of Hudson; member of the former Hudson Saving Bank Board of Trustees and member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson.
Dick began his long career with his father at age 15 and in the late 50's, he started running the business his father started in 1949. He was a devoted family man and always looked forward to spending time with them, especially with his grandchildren. He was active in the Hudson community and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his five children, Stephen J. Durand and his wife Doreen of Walpole, NH, Susan Clancy and her husband David of Canton, Richard G. Durand Jr. and his wife Dianne of Holden, Anne Marie Heffernan and her husband Tom of Bedford, NH and Dianne LaCerte and her husband Steven of Hudson. He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Priest of Hudson; his brother, David Durand of Colorado; his 12 loving grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. There are no calling hours and all are invited to honor Mr. Durand by attending the mass at Saint Michael's Church. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson.
