The family of Richard E. Getchell, 93, (November 10, 2022) and Edith L. (Malm) Getchell, 90, (April 7, 2022), of Marlborough and former longtime residents of Framingham, MA invite relatives and friends to a period of visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Richard and Edith’s Life at 3:00pm on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA.
Richard and Edith, married in September 1956, leave their son, Stephen Getchell, husband of the late Cynthia (Hougham) Getchell, their granddaughter Melanie Getchell, great grandchildren Kayden and Ryan, Richard’s niece, Carole, along with other relatives and friends. Richard was predeceased by his twin sisters, Alma and Iva, and his brother, Rodney.
Richard was born and raised in Somerville, MA to the late John and Helen (Anderson) Getchell. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He studied at Northeastern University eventually earning his Bachelor’s Degree. He was a retired cost analyst working for the Raytheon Co. in Wayland for 35 years.
Edith was born in Boston, MA to the late Howard and Louise (Schmitt) Malm. She was raised in West Roxbury, MA attending local schools. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Kansas City University, later attended Boston College and received her Master’s Degree from Framingham State College. She was a retired Director of Nutrition at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Richard and Edith resided in Framingham, MA for over 50 years until recently moving to Marlborough, MA. They both enjoyed traveling, bird watching and watching old classic movies together. Richard enjoyed golfing with friends and dabbling in the stock market. Edith enjoyed playing the piano, crossword puzzles and cooking. She gave much of her free time to many church organizations along with caring for others.
