Robert M. Bateman, 61, of Sterling, formerly of Hudson, died Wednesday, July 4th at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was born in Marlboro, son of the late Robert Bateman and is survived by his mother, Alice (Jacobs) Bateman of Hudson.
Bob was raised in Hudson where he attended local schools and was a 1969 graduate of Hudson H.S. He has resided in Sterling the past 25 plus years. He spent many years as a mechanical engineer, working for several local companies and has been a self employed carpenter for the past 10 years. Bob enjoyed farming and listening to celtic music in his spare time and also enjoyed hiking and other outdoor activities.
Besides his mother, Bob is survived by his son, Ryan Bateman of Sterling; his daughter, Clancey Bateman of Cambridge; his two sisters, Sally Thoman of New Hampshire, Susan Phaneuf of Boylston and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Sandra Bateman who died in 2005.
Family and friends may attend a calling hour on Monday, July 9th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749 followed by a funeral service on Monday, July 9th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson.
