Robert Lambert, 85, of Hudson, MA, passed away in his home Sunday, August 28, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his beloved wife of 52 years, Karen (Merrell) Lambert.
Born in Charlotte, NC, on June 4, 1937, Robert moved to Massachusetts in 1970 and married the love of his life, Karen. He worked as a lineman for the telephone company for over thirty years. Robert often took on extra hours and stand-by calls and helped restore services to millions of affected families after "the greatest storm in 1993" and "The great ice storm of 1998". After his retirement, Robert enjoyed various other part-time jobs, including being a happy greeter at Walmart and a limo driver.
Robert was known for his great sense of humor, infectious smile, and outgoing personality. The running joke was he could get a telephone pole to talk back to him! He had an enormous love and devotion to his family and was always available for a helping hand. Robert enjoyed driving and taking road trips with his family. On Sunday's he would say, "Ok, get dressed. We're going for a ride," with no particular destination in mind. After his wife retired from teaching, they drove back and forth annually to their winter home in Florida, often taking the long way through the Mountains in North Carolina and stopping at various points of interest along the way. He looked forward to his Florida trips every year.
Robert was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching auto racing, golf, baseball, basketball, and football. He was a lifelong golfer and frequently played at Sandy Burr country club in Wayland, MA. In addition, Robert was an excellent bowler earning many trophies during his bowling career. He played in various leagues in Massachusetts and even coached a junior team for many years. At the V.F.W. in Hudson, Robert was part of a horseshoe league and a pitch league with his wife. Robert was a "Card Shark," He and his wife played weekly pitch tournaments for many years and enjoyed playing cribbage and most other card games. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, and visiting the casino.
In addition to his wife, Robert leaves their three children, Christopher Lambert of Hudson, Melanie Lambert of Hudson, Melissa Hawthorne, and her husband, Allen of Princeton, MA. He also leaves his loved grandchildren, Connor, Devon, and Peter; and brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Kristen.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
