HUDSON - Robert W. MacMillan passed away on Wednesday, January 18th at the age of 84 with his family by his side. Formally of Belmont and Waltham and residing in Hudson since 1965. The son of Robert W. MacMillan Sr. and Alice (Morris) MacMillan both deceased. He was a graduate of Belmont High School in 1950 where he played soccer and hockey.
He was the devoted husband to his loving wife Paula (Darcy) MacMillan for 56 years. Robert is also survived by his devoted children Andrea Guerin and husband, Roger of Northbridge, Robert D. MacMillan and wife, Joanne of Boxboro and Elizabeth Beland and her fiancAC., Scott Dowden of Boxboro.
Bob was known as Papa to his grandchildren for whom he loved each one dearly. Nicholas and Katherine Guerin, Daniel, Jack and Mary MacMillan, and Jake Beland. He enjoyed their growing, learning and accomplishments and many time they would ask him to explain facts, people, places and years of history.
He is also survived by his sister, Carol Morris and Alan Morris (deceased) of Chelmsford, sister Phyllis (MacMillan) Wood and husband, Jerold Wood, both deceased. He leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews as well.
Bob graduated from Belmont High School then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951 during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan as a Radar Radio Technician. After his four years of service he entered Wentworth University and graduated, then went on to graduate from Northeastern University as an Electrical Engineer with a Business Degree. He was employed at Sylvania Electric in Woburn, Digital Equipment Corp. in Hudson and Wang Laboratories in 1980 as a Project Manager.
Bob was an avid golfer over the years. Wentworth Alumni Tournaments always found him ready. After retirement Bob worked at the International Golf Course in Bolton for 16 years and was a current member of Twin Springs. He also enjoyed his golf game with his Dad in No. Palm Beach Fla, and with his son, Bob, here in MA. For many years Bob and Paula enjoyed their summer home in Wareham, MA with family and friends. They had many fond memories of Parkwood Beach. Beside their Cape Cod days, they enjoyed their travels to Marco Island, Canada, Bermuda and many day trips.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, January 22 from 1:00- 4:00 at the Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson. A funeral service and celebration of Bob's life will be held the next day, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private at a later date at the Forestvale Cemetery in Hudson.
