Robert B. “Mitch” Mitchell passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at the age of 81, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Norwood, Massachusetts on February 28, 1943, the son of the late John Mitchell and Ida (Jarlis) Mitchell. He was also pre-deceased by his brother Richard.
Mitch graduated from Walpole High School in 1961 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1965 from Boston College. The majority of his career (36 years) was spent in various financial managerial positions at Raytheon Technologies Corporation in Massachusetts. Following his retirement in 2004, he and his wife traveled extensively, both in the United States and abroad, and enjoyed spending winter months in Florida. These excursions created both eternal memories and lasting friendships that Mitch cherished dearly.
For Mitch, nothing was more important than his family. When his children were young, he coached their Hudson youth baseball and basketball teams and enjoyed watching their sporting events as they grew older. A man of strong values and innate leadership, Mitch continuously demonstrated in both words and actions his commitment to life’s priorities. Through his example, a deep passion for family was bestowed upon his children and will always remain his greatest legacy.
Mitch was an avid golfer. His passion for the game began at age 10 and continued throughout his 36-year membership at Marlboro Country Club. Mitch thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and competition with his fellow golfers and established lifelong friendships throughout his time there. He also served a three-year term as Treasurer for the club.
Mitch is remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a man who put the needs of others far above his own. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Mitch is survived by his wife and true love Phyllis (Anes) Mitchell, his son Scott and wife Sonia of Georgetown MA, his daughter Kelli Babcock and her partner John Dalomba of Narragansett, RI. Mitch is also survived by his four grandchildren, Zachary and Nicholas Mitchell and Makenzie and Jordan Babcock, and two great-grandchildren, Xavier Estevez and Elijah Fenty.
